Over the course of three years, I collaborated with a nationally recognized children’s research hospital on two major initiatives focused on creating uplifting, restorative spaces for families, patients, and caregivers. The projects spanned multiple buildings and environments—from playrooms and kitchens to lobbies, family nooks, and large community gathering spaces.

My role included designing and producing original artworks, environmental graphics, and immersive murals that would bring warmth, joy, and connection to spaces where families spend significant time. Because these are environments where imagination, comfort, and emotional support matter deeply, every visual decision was made with care and intention.

CASE STUDY

Children’s Hospital – Community & Family Spaces

PROJECT SCOPE

This portion of the project required coordinated communication across multiple teams - architects, digital fabricators, local artists, and specialty installers - while working remotely over an extended timeline. Changes to measurements, schedules, and construction details were frequent, requiring ongoing adaptability and creative problem-solving.

10 Custom Acrylic Artworks installed across gathering spaces including the welcome desk, lobby, community kitchen, and family room

Hand-Painted Tile Backsplash for the community kitchen - each tile individually sandblasted, painted, oven-cured, transported, and sealed to become functional art

Custom Ceiling Mural (digital wallpaper) for the art room, designed to create a moment of uplift when children look up

24 Narrative Murals for Residential Floors (8–16 ft wide) installed throughout Domino’s Village apartments, each floor featuring its own story and theme — including farmland landscapes and rooftop birds — framed with custom millwork to resemble windows.

Digital Signage System & Servery Artwork for the cafeteria to create a cohesive, playful visual identity

360° Toddler Room Mural & Fabrication Design including window film illustrations and built environmental elements

Large Parking Deck Murals designed for clarity, joy, and intuitive wayfinding

Bridge Ceiling Installation Design in collaboration with Youngblood Studios, ensuring artwork integrated seamlessly with architectural features

APPROACH & CREATIVE PROCESS

Mediums: acrylic on wood, hand-painted ceramic tile, digital illustration, large-scale environmental graphics

Tools: Procreate (iPad), Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop for production-ready files

Collaboration: Worked closely with Youngblood Studios (Memphis) for fabrication, sealing, digital printing, and installation support

Photography: select documentation by Joe Luther

This large-scale, long-term, multi-building collaborative public art project required equal parts imagination, project management, technical problem solving, and trust. Seeing sketches that were developed years earlier finally installed was a deeply rewarding experience.

“Catherine is incredibly client-focused and an absolute joy throughout the entire process. I’ve brought her in on numerous corporate client projects. She truly listens, brings imaginative and inspiring ideas to life, and thoughtfully adapts to budget considerations without ever compromising on quality. Working with her is seamless, collaborative, and genuinely exciting. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.”

IMPACT

These spaces now support thousands of families each year - offering color, comfort, playfulness, and warmth in moments when they’re needed most. The artwork is meant to feel welcoming and steady - an invitation to breathe, feel at home, and remember that beauty and care are present.

Art that brings people together, let’s create yours.

If you are designing community environments, healthcare spaces, or places where people gather and heal, I would love to collaborate.
