Establishing identity through art
When the Bien Trucha restaurant group opened A Toda Madre in Glen Ellyn, the goal was to create a space that felt vibrant, welcoming, and full of personality — a place where the art and atmosphere would immediately communicate the spirit of the restaurant.
I was invited to design and paint a large-scale mural that would live within the dining room and become part of the experience for guests the moment they walked in.
PROJECT SCOPE
Concept development for a site-specific restaurant mural
Large-scale interior mural design tailored to the dining room environment
Hand-painted mural execution using acrylic paint
Visual storytelling through symbolic imagery, pattern, and color
Integration of the mural with interior architecture and seating layout
The mural brings together bold color, symbolic imagery, and layered pattern inspired by Mexican folk art and storytelling traditions. Animals, geometric forms, and radiant color fields move across the wall, creating a visual rhythm that complements the warmth and energy of the space.
Rather than feeling decorative, the piece was designed to anchor the room — giving the restaurant a visual center and helping establish its identity from the beginning.
“This mural helped establish the identity of the restaurant.”
IMPACT
Over time, the mural has become one of the defining visual elements of A Toda Madre.
Guests encounter it immediately when entering the space, and it contributes to the lively, immersive atmosphere that the restaurant is known for. The owner has shared that the mural helped establish the identity of the restaurant — setting the tone for the experience and reinforcing the personality of the brand.
Because the work resonated so strongly with the space and community, I’ve been invited to return this spring to create a second piece that will expand on the original visual language and continue the story within the restaurant.
It’s always meaningful when artwork becomes part of a place’s identity — something that guests remember long after the meal is over.
Art that brings people together, let’s create yours.
If you are designing community environments, healthcare spaces, or places where people gather and heal, I would love to collaborate.
